The Township of Nipigon is considering amending the existing Zoning By-law No. 1823. Section 3.2.3 of the Township’s Zoning By-law prohibits the placement of shipping containers (also known as Sea Cans) on any property within the Township of Nipigon. Proposed changes to the by-law would allow the placement of these containers on properties that are zoned commercial or industrial, subject to specific conditions such as the number of containers allowed on any given lot, their proposed location, and the requirement for them to be in good condition, and the property owner purchasing a permit. Under the proposed amendments, the regulations for shipping containers in residential zones will not change and will therefore remain prohibited.
The Township is requesting input from the public on the proposed changes and encourages members of the public to submit their comments in writing to the Municipal Office, either by dropping off in person or sending by email to .
